Yuhanxiao (Maggie) Ma is a research artist who works with 3D fabrication, multimedia installations, crafting techniques (such as casting and molding) and performance art. Her works often explore the paradoxical relationship between humans and technology, as well as the socio-political implications of this paradox. In a time when technology dictates our understanding of normalcy, productivity, and even reality itself, she would like to challenge preconceived notions and common-sense ways of viewing the world. Specifically, she investigates the impact of technological innovation on the most precious aspects of human life, including our well-being, labor, social relations, and perception.
With a minor in Philosophy from NYU, she brings philosophical perspectives to bear in her artwork. As a conceptual artist, she draws significantly on phenomenology and parafiction to probe the essence of our sensory perception, and the intersubjective truth and authenticity of lived experiences.
